Alison Krauss + Union Station @ Merriweather

One of the best live shows I have ever been to is Alison Krauss and Union Station at Merriweather Post Pavillion in Columbia, Md. The mix of Country and Bluegrass sounded phenominal. Quite honestly, I was not even a fan of hers and only heard of her through a friend. Of course I have seen the movie "O Brother Where Art Thou" but had no idea that they were involved with the soundtrack.

Alison took her time on stage in between songs introducing the band and also telling funny stories about each member. Her charasmatic attitude and musical prowess was relaxing and reminded me that music does not have to be that complicated, it just needs to be enjoyed!

Jerry Douglas, on Dobro, played three solo songs including a very nice arrangement of "Little Martha" by Duanne Allman. They also sang "Happy Birthday" for Mr. Douglas, and I'm not positive, but I'm pretty sure that Alison was the one dressed up in an ape suit when they brought the cake out!

My two favorite songs were "When You Say Nothing at All" and the energy packed "Oh, Atlanta". It's too bad for everyone that left before the encore songs, you missed out!!!

I've never been to a concert that made me feel so good! If you would like to learn more about Alison Krauss and Union Station you can check out www.alisonkrauss.com.
